I park under a maple tree, and a couple of days ago I found this: Q 1: How the heck did it get there (in case you can't tell from the picture, it's BEHIND the plastic), and more importantly, Q 2: How the heck do I get it out without taking apart the dashboard?
What you're looking at is actually a mirror reflecting the display which you can't actually see. Use a soft cloth and run it along the bottom of the flat area in front of the above mirror and you should be able to get it off.
It's sitting above the display, in the depression at the top of the dash. As stated above, you see it through a mirror. Tom
I realize it's just a reflection, but that doesn't help - I still can't get at the actual surface it's being reflected from.
Are you sure it's not on top of the display window? That's where most of these foreign objects end up, but they look like they are buried inside. Tom
Yeah, I found it this afternoon. It was in front of the vent (It sure looked like it was inside it). Yeah, sometimes I'm a bit slow. But thanks, you nudged me in the right direction.
I had the same experience with a bit of dust when our Prius was new. It creates quite the illusion of being behind the glass. Tom
