My dad has a 2010 prius IV. He told me the other day when he backed out of the driveway and put it in drive he experienced a clanking noise coming from the engine. He said it sounded like metal rattling around. It lasted about 30 sec. then went away. Any ideas on what this may be?? It hasnt happened since.
There have been threads where some people have reported a metal rattling sound on start up that goes away... I don't think there was an ultimate resolution. Complaints seem to have subsided. But no, your father isn't the first or only person to report this symptom.
Yup, what the guy above said. I have yet to experience it, but most people just turned off their cars and re-started and problem goes away.

Very interesting. I have had this happen on my 2010 as well. I will bring it up to the dealer when I have a service done.
I talked to my dad about it and he is going to bring it up when he gets his oil changed. I read Josh's post. Hope its nothing as serious as a recall. Will report back if I find anything out worthwhile.
