I have started logging the distance taken for each car trip I take. If I were to consider buying a PHEV or EV, I would want to compare its range with my typical driving habits. Here is my first week of data. WARNING: Yes, I have a lot of short trips. I call anything over 4 miles a long trip. All distances in miles. A (*) means that I was at home and could have charged a battery during that interval. 7/19: * 2.4 0.7 1.5 2.4 1.8 Total: 8.8 7/20: * 2.3 2.2 * 4.5 4.1 Total: 13.1 7/22: * 2.3 2.2 * 1.6 1.6 Total: 7.7 7/23: * 4.3 0.6 1.8 Total: 6.7 7/24: * 4.3 4.3 0.2 1.0 1.2 Total: 11.0 7/25: * 4.8 10.6 15.1 Total: 30.5

If I had other opportunities to charge, maybe all the time. Given a longer range PHEV, I could easily get 100% of my in-town driving on electric.
