I use several other gps systems an the on in my 2009 pries is the worst. 70%of the tim it just says it can't find the address. I have the latest DVD, live in a major city and most of the addresses are10years or more old. Any suggestions?
This is probably the most asked topic ever! I have found when I cannot get the NAV system to cooperate, it's usually the fact that I input the info incorrectly. By incorrectly I mean I sometimes have to spell it out, I.E. "North State St." instead of "N State St.". Or it's "Ave" not "St." I had a company swear that they were on a specific street name, and when I finally got there, the street sign says "South" XXX St. Not just XXX St. The people who worked there did not know even know they were on South State.... you get the idea!!! When I finally figured that little hint out, my error rate went way down!!!
KK6PD has a good point, but I'll take it further: Don't enter the supplemental data. If your target address is North Front Street it may appear in the database as N. Front St., North Front Street, or any other permutation. Just put in Front, at which point the system will give you a list from which to select. Here is my approach to entering a new and untested destination: 1) Make sure you are in the correct region. 2) Enter the city. 3) Enter the key part of the street name. Select the full street name from the list. 4) Enter the street number. That will work every time, assuming the address is in the database. By working backward from the largest to smallest you whittle down the size of the list. If you start with the street name you will see all matching street names for the entire region. You don't want that. Sometimes you have to get clever with the city. Some addresses are actually township addresses and not in a city, regardless of what you might think. Tom
