On one of the two FOBs key rings there is the plastic thing that looks like a FOB Battery on a angled piece of plastic. I looked all through the manuals and cannot find what it does. Anyone know?
Are you talking about the piece that COMES out of the FOBs by pressing the button, like a sword/knife leaving a sheath? If so that is the MECHANICAL key incase of emergency when you need to unlock the doors MANUALLY when there is NO POWER on the battery to unlock the doors otherwise. Other than that, I have no idea what piece of ANGLED plastic you're refering to...
it's either an extra battery, or the dealer forgot to install it. does the fob work? they probably ship with the battery out so it doesn't discharge.
Yeah you can remove that. That is what dealers commonly use to attach it to a "wall" of keys. So when you ask to testdrive a car, they go to the wall and pull the key. Better than having it in a giant drawer. The dealer might appreciate getting it back.
If it's from the dealership I would hold it hostage and negotiate for a free oil change or something. They probably kept everyone over one night to look for it. You have a great bargaining chip - use it wisely.
That is a security key called an ibutton. The dealer uses it for their lock box or something. I used to have one when I worked for a local ISP to get in the door. Just return it to the dealer.
Hide-out in the dealership restroom until everyone leaves...then use your i-button to open the key locker....then.....
