I saw Edmund.com has some info about Prius incentives. One is from manufacturer to dealers. It is called marketing support which is 750 dollars dealer cash back. The restriction shows the vehicle must be financed through the manufacturer's captive finance company. Can someone explain this? Does that mean what a dealer pay for the vehicle from manufacturer is (MSRP - holdback - 750)? I'm asking this question is because I think this is a piece of info that I can use when I negotiate the price with dealers. Another question is I got a quote from a dealer for Prius trim two. The price is 22000. Is this a reasonable price? I'm leaving in San Deigo, CA. Thanks a lot!
i spoke with a dealer who said he would give me the 750 discount for cash. and another 1000-2000 discount depending on the model but i have heard cali isn't that generous. try diane in l.a., she is on this board and gets great marks. all the best!
You can also check truecar.com they have been coming up with some great local prices- although I haven't tried it yet to see if it really works. but they have a II for 21,844.
Xiang, I think I can aswer these questions for you. The one that seems most important is this: The 750 dealer cash is exactly that: dealer cash. No customer cash, and not a rebate or whatever else you might wish to call it. Once we as a dealership sell the car, and your contract comes thru as a NON SUBVENTED RATE purchase meaning you do NOT use Toyota's 2.9 apr or Toyota's special low lease rates right now, we as a dealer are entitled to $750 from Toyota. If your dealer, who could be me as well as anyone else, decided to share that with you, then they would. It could be reflected in your selling pricing, or things they might say they are throwing in or making a first car payment, whatever. It's important to know that some dealers, after selling these cars at a loss or under invoice, even doing older stock at under the invoice minus holdback - some dealers are not sharing this money. And, they don't have to. If they want to, they will. The $22K figure you have on a II is a good number considering your area. My II deals are lower on most II's that are not the best color choices and are scarce, but not everyone wants to drive from SD to LA (although many of my clients do!)... I can probably save you a few hundred and pick ya up at the train station too. I have a pet peeve rez: trucar and edmunds alike. Their hidden disclaimers about TDA (Toyota Dealer Association $) and some things being different dealer to dealer should be NOT hidden. They have all of this data. They have it from me and they have it from other sources too. Yet, their "average price" or "invoice price" or "market value" pricing data is often quite inaccurate and it's never in the right direction. JUST ONCE .. I'd love to have someone bring me an Edmunds page that actually shows the right numbers and totals on it. I'd buy them a good lunch! Dianne
Dianne, thanks a lot for your detailed reply. You make me know something I didn't know about. But I decide to buy it at a San Diego local dealer with a reasonable price.
..except for the fact that he told you that leather was 1600 bucks. Oh gee, whatta hero. That's beyond retail for leather.
I got a quote from the dealer that the leather costs 1600 dollars. But I didn't buy it. So usually how much the leather costs? I don't see the leather option in Toyota office website....
you wouldn't see an aftermarket addition on a Toyota website. It's damn near half what you were quoted to add leather.
