2:28 PM CDT CNN "Situation" aired another report on the Prius call back. Most of the report was accurate but the reporter indicated that 160,000 Prii had what he termed a "major recall" for reprogramming - not the 75,000 reported on other media. The reporter was not alarmist in his attitude and also commented that is was a "software" problem, not mechanical and commented that perhaps someday we would be able to download updates to our computers and 'plug it in.' It's remarkable how incomplete and inaccurate information is distributed by the media. *SIGH*
Interesting, there seems to be a double edged sword to that report. Good things: software update ability, not hardware related, matter of fact reporting (rather not muckrakeing). Bad things: inflated number affected (I believe the 160,000 number represents world wide affected, not domestic U.S. or NA distribution), no reference to actual number of problem reports, calling it a "major" recall.
