hi. i am new here,,, i bought my prius today,,, new 2010 prius II . today afternoon... but around 10pm , i try to start but it didn't start for 5 times i tried.... finally it starts 6th time.. i press the brake and push the start button each time i try. now no problem,, but what if it happens again... one of my friend told me dealer only suspect the problem when it happens.. please help... any one know why or what am i gonna do or check??

After the ready light stopped blinking, did you put it in "D" or "R"? Even then, the engine (gas engine) won't always start until you start moving, or have moved a few feet. It will run on battery and electric power for a bit. Chances are that's what happened and after the 5th try you wore the battery down enough for the computer to kick the engine on to provide a recharge...

When you pressed the brake pedal did the brake lights come on? Sometimes the brake pedal sensor doesn't work properly (it can be adjusted or replaced) and the car thinks you haven't pressed the brakes.
Without pressing the brake, I push "Power" twice. This brings up the display and enables the Aux input for my iPod touch. I select the podcast I want to listen and adjust the volume. I make sure the GPS is up and fasten my seatbelt. Then I push the brake and push "Power" to start the car and drive off. If I do not press the brake pedal on the third "Power" press, it shuts the car down. This could isolate a "Power" button versus brake switch issue. Now I know my startup protocol is a little rough on the 12 V battery but the battery is kinda of cheezy small. I look forward to replacing it. Bob Wilson
On my 2010, the brake pedel switch was set too far forward, so you had to press the pedal alot to activate it. This made it difficult to tap the pedal to disengage cruise. That switch is what tells the car you're on the brake pedal to enable ready mode. Make sure you're pressing the pedal hard enough to turn the little LED on the start switch green.
