I'm about to donate my 2004 (with 140K miles on it) to my son - who's in desperate need of a car. I want to replace it with another Prius but don't want to deal with the instant depreciation associated with buying new. So, I'm looking to buy a used Prius and, all things being equal, wanted your recommendations on which model (2004 - 2009) would give me the best bang for the buck.
I just purchased a 2006 Prius with all options other that Navigation. It had 19,500 kilometers on it . X lease by a older couple, and is spotless. I am not sure of the color silver, but that is what it is. I also own a 2006 HCH2 by Honda. I think the thing to look for is Low mileage, Maintenance documented and clean. I would think the closest to 09 would be preferable? H
In general, I think it is a good idea to buy a used car that is 2.5 years old. The reason for this is because significant depreciation has taken effect, yet the 3 year / 36K mile warranty remains in effect for a short period. Hence, any pre-existing problems (that may have been unnoticed by you during the test drive) will be dealt with under the manufacturer's warranty.
Were are you located? There is a local Atlanta dealership that currently has 2008 and 2009 lease returns they are offering at below KBB value. I believe the 08's are being advertised as starting at $11,800 and the 09's starting at $13,900. I'm sure actual price will depend on number of miles and optional equipment, but they sounded like good prices to me...
MY 2006-2009 is the same car with higher res MFD & less agressive VSC compared to the 2005. Over the years more options became standard & the packages were consolidated. You'll be happy with any of them so just look for your options, color, & mileage.
