Raising the Suspension Has anyone used the following products to raise their Gen III successfully? RING-TYPE COIL SPRING STABILIZER - JCWhitney COIL SPRING 2-WAY ADJUSTER & STABILIZER - JCWhitney If so, would it be advisable to get taller tires (versus the OEM) at the same time?
A bumpy, gravel-laden, intermittently rocky road with the occasional ravine (and one steep hill!). This would be a peace of mind mod, since I may be moving to such an area soon (about 3-5 miles of such conditions).
The car isn't that low. I went camping and drove down an area with such conditions and my car is lowered. Just take it slow and you'll be fine. If you're set on raising the car up, I would go with coilovers so that the spring and strut agree on valving and you can adjust the dampening to compensate for the added ride height.
I must have hit a particularly rocky section then, as a panel came loose. Do you have a link for the items you just suggested?
your first link looks ok... i don't really recommend them as i tend to look at the more expensive full packages. i'm worried about it eventually bending your spring. have you added a front tower stabilizer bar? (help control the pitch/bouch)
They are very shallow, haha, but thanks for the link. I have certainly not done the former (front tower stabilizer bar). I was hoping to hear from someone whose actually done/had a mod done to lift the suspension and could report back with success.
You may want to check out some PHEV suspension mods. The batteries for high KW kits are upwards of 300+lbs. Most of them include some type of suspension kit to raise the rear end to compensate for added weight. Banshee just installed Firestone Coil Helpers to raise his back end back up to stock height. http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-p...84627-wondering-how-many-8kwh-2010-prius.html Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Spring Kit
I appreciate that. Those look to be well made. I don't have a lift of my own (I suppose I could jack up the car) and would rather have a pro install them. If there was a matching kit for the front, that would be stupendous (carrying extra weight that would weigh down the back end would not be a regular occurrence).
Truckspring.com personnel informed me that the Firestone spring helpers won't raise the suspension, only keep it from dropping under heavy weight. The original products from JCWhitney still may be my best affordable option, though I worry about fitting since they're universal.
