OK: I got a letter in the mail today from www.hymotion.com saying they will turn my PRIUS into a HYMOTION plug-in hybrid for $4,000.00, after rebate. Is this a 'good deal', worth the money ***For the $4,000.00 they want for this, I can drive 60,000 miles on my prius at $3.00 per gallon!!!
does that include a rebate from your state? Here in colorado I've been offered the same deal but they use a $6000 state rebate to get to that price point.
Yes, that is true. And how long will gas stay at $3.00/gallon? Some calculations from cit1991: http://priuschat.com/forums/toyota-prius-phv-plug-in/83135-anticipated-price-2012-phv-prius-5.html Some calculations from me as a follow-up to cit1991: http://priuschat.com/forums/toyota-prius-phv-plug-in/83135-anticipated-price-2012-phv-prius-8.html Another thread from adric22 where FL_Prius_Driver points out what he calls "a spreadsheet changer", which is greatly extending the life of the car because of the PHEV kit: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-p...-do-people-want-me-justify-such-purchase.html Also, there is some residual value-added in any PHEV kit, which it seems people aren't calculating in either.
That is an interesting point, but I am not sure if there is any hard data as to how much the addition of a PHEV kit will add to the resale value of a Prius. I suppose, depending on the buyer, it could be anywhere from nothing at all to perhaps more than the original cost of the kit.
you could have driven 400,000 miles in a Corolla with the money you would have saved by NOT buying a Prius
VERY TRUE,,,I could have driven 400,000 miles in a Corolla with the money you would have saved by NOT buying a Prius If I had to do it again, I would buy a Corolla... Prius is way overpriced!!!! Not interested in adding another$4000.00 for the plug-in!!!
But the price difference between a Prius IV and a Prius II is around $3800, isn't it? Of course, you do get leather seats in the Prius IV, which is supposed to be a big deal? And of course, then IF somebody gets the famous Solar Package (I don't know if ski.dive got this or not) that gives a few extra minutes of "pre-airconditioning," so you don't have to sit in a hot car for a couple minutes, that is another $3600, isn't it? So the Prius IV with the Solar Package is almost 33% more expensive than a base Prius II. Or put another way, sitting on leather in a cooler for two minutes Prius IV is still $3200 more than sitting in a Prius II with a Hymotion kit and not using gasoline if you do things right.
