I'm sure that this is not normal, but I just want to know if any one else has this problem with their car. When the windows are down, they are loose in their tracks -- you can actually shift them forward and backward with your fingers. Also, if the windows are lowered when I shut the door, the windows flutter. The right rear window is so loose, that it creaks when I hit a bump even when the window is all the way up. The windows seal up just fine -- no wind noise or leaks of any sort. In the link below you can see me shifting the windows forward and back. The right front window is least affected, right rear is the worst, and the two left windows seem about the same.
Ok. You have not help the OP at all just came in here to bash the new prius. Envy? There is a hugh list of complaints on both gens of the prius and most of the complaints are the same. And i am sure there is play in your windows when they are down, just like every other car. Anyways to the question at hand. i can't see the video, but will say most windows do move a little when they are half way down. I have noticed the Ford work trucks that are 1-2 years old have about 1-2 inches of play in them. Most cars have play in the window when it is not all the way up. An dyes if i have the window half way down or more and close the door hard the window will make some noise. Edit i got the video to work, there is more play in the rear windows than i had thought. but looks about right to me. you got me wondering so i'm going down 3 floors to go check mine out. be back in a few. Yep my car is the same or close. There is more play in the rear window of my car then the front, i only did the drivers side. This is normal, unless your having problems with them. The only time i notice any noise is like you said, when the windows are down and i close the door hard. I think one time i noticed the drivers window making a little creeking noise when it was part of the way down, i just moved it a little bit and it went away.
Thanks Adam! I've got about 1,000 miles before I get to 5k, which is when I plan to bring it in for the 5k service and some other minor warranty work. I'm going to have them take a look at the windows to see if they can tighten anything, and if not, I won't sweat it. Really, it's just the right rear that bugs me since it will creak when I back out of my garage.
i have never had anything rattle in my 04 or 08. i'm not stuck either, just waiting for the right moment. like cialis!
Have you tried sitting in the back to see if you hear it, and if you do have you tried pushing agianst the window to see if it solves the problem? I'm just wondering if it is really your window. Some people have had the right rear seat creak/rattle. I had to have the spoiler replaced because it was creeking/clunking. Just wondering if you have made sure you know it's the window before you take it in. I seen another gen III has posted in here saying their windows are not like our, can't be true. I'm sure all of the prius cars have play in the windows when down and you pull on them in a forward backwards motion. If your really wondering see if the dealer will let you look at a new prius in the lot and roll down the windows and see if their the same. If you hadn't posted about it on here i would have never thought about it. It just seems normal to me.
I finally hit 5k in January, so during the 5k service, I had the dealer take a look at the windows. When I dropped it off, I showed the service writer the window problem, and he acknowledged it. Oddly enough, the problem was unable to be duplicated when it made it to a service bay. What a joke. My time is too valuable for these games, so Ray Brandt Toyota Scion just lost my business. There are two other dealers around me, so I'll give one of them a try.
Mine shifts sideways only on the two rear windows. The fronts can't be moved at all. My suggestion is to sit in a few new 2010 or 2011 on the dealer's lot the next time you go to a dealer and see if the rears do the same and the fronts are intact, in which case it's normal.
