Well, I thought I'd post this http://www.hybridexperience.ca/Pages/images/scan.pdf It's in PDF format and it's the service history for Andrew Grant's 2001 Prius taxi in Vancouver, BC. His rear brake pads lasted him til 330,626kms! (That's 206641 miles!). His fronts were replaced at 144,634kms (90,396 miles).
Re: 2001 Prius Brake Pad Lifetime! I just checked my brake pads on our 2003 Prius with 140,000 miles. The front pads were only 50% worn to the replacement level and the rear shoes were only 10% worn. There was no fluid leak visible at the brake cylinders. The brake fluid was also at a proper level, but the brake light does flick on once in a while. Maybe I should simply replace the brake fluid. The pad longevity is probably because I drive very gently nearly always using regenerative braking. The only repair necessary so far has been the replacement of two ignition coils. The computer readout, however, seems to lie about which cylinder is misfiring.
The front pads on my 2004 Prius at 187,000 miles are at 50% and the rears have more life left. Regenerative braking plus mostly highway driving leads to long brake life. JeffD
I found about 2 mm of wear on the front pads when I checked at 110k miles. I didn't bother to check the rear, although I should for rust ;-)
