would fatmat help with road noise in the back?

    a buddy has a Ponitac Vibe and installed fatmat under the carpet and the rear deck area which really helped with the road noise.

    do ya'll think putting the fatmat under the spare tire area would help deaden some of the road noise? I would want to be careful not to block any cooling for the battery.
