I'm noticing more yellow cars the last couple of years. Costco here has a yellow Mustang convertible inside, with a dealer markup of $8K! Would you accept a yellow Prius if it came up and you were next in line?
Yellow is an ugly color. In earlier times it was considered an evil color, probably because uranium oxide is yellow (remember GB's "yellow cake"?) and it can cause sickness and death.
Dang it, that's carnotite, and a wonderful mineral. As long as you don't eat it, hold it, breathe it, or um, live near it... I like pale yellow, it's cheerful. I've loved it since I used to, as a kid, see a pale yellow Corvette drive in and out of the Henry J. Kaiser estate. It's the color of lemon custard ice cream on a hot day.
too cute and playful....like a Scion or something.... People will not take a Prius seriously in that colour.
A pastel yellow would be nice. Actually a pastel anything would be nice. I really like the VW color choices and wish Toyota offered similar choices.
On the positive side, yellow is a very visible color to other drivers which may make a yellow Prius safer to drive. I suspect the smaller the car the more important this might be. I wonder if there are any statistics from the insurance industry on this?
Yellow is definately the most visible and therefore safest colour. On the highway you can see the yellow cars a mile away. I don't know if any studies have been done, but I would bet that having a yellow car increases safety even more than ABS. Having said that, I don't think I could live with it even if it increases the odds of living.
No, never! I hate yellow cars. A friend of mine has a 2000 Mustang in that yellow color they were available in, I couldn't stand the color. Very 'X-terra' and/or taxi-like.
My wife also thinks that yellow is good because it's more visible, but she let me pick the color. Her favorite color is green and I admit a green Prius would look good. Someone said, "No matter what color you get, the Prius is still green."
It's funny, I've always felt "Cyber Green", the pale green some Beetles come in, would be an excellent color for a Prius.
Anyone remember the rather dark green the Gen 1 offered? I didn't like it then, but wish I could get it now. I never have anything good to wear that's green on March 17.
Are there quite a few now? Does more than one taxi company use them? You may know about the guy where you live who became sort of a "Prius celebrity from afar" when word got around about Toyota "buying back" his Gen 1 taxi and providing him with another one. At that time I think he had more miles on his cab than anyone in North America had on their Priuses---170,000 or so.
The numbers of Prius taxis are growing in Vancouver. I would say it's about 10% right now that are Prius. Majority seems to be the Corolla. In Victoria on Vancouver Island, that figure is reversed with 90% of the taxis being a Prius.
No kidding. I was DT yesterday and they were everywhere! I don't remember seeing this many Prius taxis even this past summer!
If I were starting a cab company, and the Prius had the reliability record it does, I'd probably buy at least half Priuses. The car has its size limitations compared to the traditional roomy Checker-type vehicle, but most taxi users don't consist of families of four with lots of luggage. Toyota may have unwittingly unleashed the Taxi Of The 21st Century. An interesting sidelight.
