I bought a 2009 Prius basic package. I don't usually need any extras, but the smartkey option is looking better and better to me. Is there a way to upgrade my Prius with a smartkey? I hate to have to fish the key out of my pocket to open the door and start the car. Thanks
You should have gone ahead and bought it with the II package, which includes the smart key. It's wonderful!!!! :lock1:
20/20...I didn't know I would like that feature until I started driving with a freind that had that feature and saw how useful it really was.
If it is possible, Steve at autobeyours.com would know. But it would over $1000 just for the parts. In addition to the four computers and two fobs that they sell for $695, you would need to buy oscillators, antennas, sensors, and switches. And then you'd have to install it yourself, unless you can find someone that knows what they are doing around a Prius (difficult) and would be willing to take on the job (very difficult).
I was about to suggest Steve too. If anyone would know, it would be him. My Prius is a package 5, but I don't think I would have gotten a Prius I, a Prius II has nice equipment. Back-up camera, high-res screen, smart-key, iPod jack is what comes on a Prius II.
Steve at autobeyours.com was awesome. He went out of his way to get me the info even though he wasn't going to make a dime off of it. He gave me this link to a company that makes an aftermarket Smartkey that goes in the Prius. cn-spacekey I have not finished my research into this option, but at a glance it looks like it would cost around $450 for the parts, keys etc. Jim
