2008 Prius with 35K miles, Can somebody give me advice on my so far very expensive repairs at a Toyota dealership. First CEL came on with codes PO136, PO138, PO301. Dealer replaced spark plugs and O2 sensor. Second time CEL came on again with codes PO301, PO138, P0171 and PO2195, dealer decided to replace the Air/Fuel sensor. Today after driving the car for about 60 miles CEL came on again. Before I go back to the dealer, any advice please what is happening to my Prius....
My first question would be with 35k miles, why are you having to pay for this and not warranty? Some of the other experts on here should be able to help you with the codes. By the way, it is CEL for Check Engine Light and not ECL.
1) have you owned this car since new or did you buy it used and with how many miles? 2) is the car exhibiting any unusual behavior other than the warning lites?
Thanks for your reply, warranty is the issue, I moved for work to Europe and according to the Warranty manual my warranty is voided if the car is outside of US or CAN.
Re: Check Engine Light I would say that the first repair action was reasonable, given the logged DTC. The second repair action would also be reasonable - except that DTC P0301 made a repeat appearance (which indicates cyl. 1 misfire.) I think that cylinder #1 fuel injector should be removed and checked to see if it is spraying an adequate amount of fuel. Possibly that cylinder is getting less fuel than the other three, which results in a lean air/fuel mixture (which is what the other DTC relate to.) I also suggest that you be cautious about the fuel that you purchase, and buy whatever is the equivalent of 87 octane regular fuel from a name brand supplier. Good luck.
I suspect fuel too. Are you still on the same tank of gas since all of this started happening? And are you back in the US now or still in Europe? I also wonder if a system reboot would help, disconnecting the battery negative for 5 minutes, especially if the car was shipped between continents recently.
