2012 Ford Focus officially certified at 40 mpg highway — Autoblog Green The 40 mpg highway (with 28 mpg city) rating is only on the SE version w/SFE (super fuel economy) package which has a 6 speed auto and active grille shutters. See the links for more info. So, now they've got it, just like the Eco Cruze. Hope we see something like this on the next gen Prius.
Not bad but it's not cheap, either. MSRP at high 18's I think. Who knows what it will sell for, though. Still blown away by the Prius in city
28mpg around town is rather dissappointing. I think it looks ok. Pricing will be key. I like the Fiesta, but would never buy one because of price (and stupid name). Fords offerings are much better than GM, though.
Current Highlander, a 3 seater and huge vehicle, can do 27 city. Goes to show how awesome hybrid tech really is.
Of course, it is also only getting 28 mpg on the highway, and costs, what, twice as much. Any guesses on what the Focus hybrid will achieve?
Hey, they're REALLY big seats. Actually, fueleconomy.gov gives the 2011 highlander 28 city. That is pretty darn good.
"active grille shutters" Cool! If the PRIUS had OEM manual/automatic shutters, the mpg could be in the 55- 60+ range. Possibly year round.
Ha! My family thinks I'm nuts because I said I couldn't buy a Fiesta because I hate the name! Nice little car though.
Actually, semi trucks used to have automatic air shutters. They would fail open, otherwise would use the air system to control the shutter based on a sensor probe They did away with it when clutch fans became reliable. The clutch fan for the rad helped way more than the rad shutter did
