Proposed Texas immigration law contains convenient loophole for ‘the help’ - Yahoo! News Are you kidding me?
No kidding, TeaPublicans need to keep their domestic help and don't want to be arrested and thrown in jail for hiring them
There was a time when people used to take the stance that illegal meant illegal. Should have known it was just a matter of time before illegal came to mean "we'll just tweak that law."
The Southern mentality still needs that underclass so cruelly deprived it 150 years ago whose deprecation was its only source of self esteem, lacking as it does the mature facets of character that are the usual basis for such esteem. They still revere the Confederate flag down there, which, considering that it represents a calculated attempt to retain the institution of race-based slavery, is not much different than revering the Swastika. You can bet that this legislation will beget another loophole (if it isn't already there) that exempts jobs held by visaless immigrants from minimum wage laws and other employment benefits usually required by law.
This has always been the core of the issue. If they cannot get their slaves here, they'll just import them or move to where they are abundant. And it isn't just Tea Party people, its democrats too- many of whom are well-moneyed. I don't know about other people, but frankly I am tired of explaining to self-proclaimed conservatives (especially Catholics) why it isn't 'conservative' to cede your communities, culture, safety, and kids' employment to the third world just because it may in some way benefit "you" in the short run; and that you should hold your government accountable in the same way. This country has added > 100 million people since the Hart-Cellar Act and ~ 50-60 million since the 1980s alone. I guess that is the price a declined empire pays for their day in the sun. Apparently western Europe and the United States struck a bargain somewhere back a few decades that says that if we sap their resources, we can simply feed them into exponential growth and then absorb their populations into our lands to do the same to us....and hope that they don't at some point wipe us out culturally/ethnically .
The real irony is that you could help reduce illegal immigration by going after the people who hire them...they have more to lose.
Typical neoCON double standard. Get rid of all the brown people, except for the ones raising my kids for me. You know, issuing more work permits and collecting additional employment/payroll taxes will do more to fix the illegal immigration problem than passing more laws that make being here illegally EVEN MORE illegal.
Wait, wait a minute doesn't this go against the whole argument about jobs being taken away from "US Americans?" I thought there were dozens of people wanting these jobs? Mexico please take Texas back.
Funny, I thought 'domestic help' was one of the main drivers of illegal immigration. The supply and demand of economics 101 works with people, too. Blaming the 'supply' is misplaced at best - it's the demand by employers that needs to change. Maybe employers isn't the right word? Slaveowners, then. What century is this?
You are confusing the neocons with conservatives. Getting rid of the brown people has never been a neocon mantra. In fact, so long as they are adequately protected from the fallout, they don't care whether or not the civilization around them goes to hell. Not wanting to compete with the third world culturally, economically and otherwise is a conservative (man on the street) value.
