All lights on dash light up and won't shift to reverse or drive only neutral. Towed to dealer and they said it threw several codes and are replacing the tranny. I will keep you posted on outcome.
ACK!!! Thank goodness it happened before 60,000. Please do let us know what the codes were etc, as you have a very unusual early failure.
Will do on the codes. Think we get 5/80,000 on power train, emmission system, and Battery Pack. Do we???? I do alot of driving in the snow and this winter we have had over 120" of the white stuff.
Is NY a CARB state? If so, your battery is 10/150. But the transaxle is a powertrain warranty item, i.e. 5/60, though we have at least one recent story of a person that was able to get their trans covered under the CARB warranty.
NY is a CARB state so yes, he'd get the 10 year/150K mile HV battery warranty. I've never heard of a "5 /80,000 on power train..." for any region.
DTC P0A40 "Drive Motor 'A' Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance" That confirms that the transaxle needed to be replaced.
At 55k, if you're Irish, you have the luck of the. That was a mighty fast part procurement, install by the dealer. Wonder what the underlying cause was.
My guess is that the motor resolver sensor was bad. This shows the position of the MG2 rotor and the sensor's waveform output allows the hybrid vehicle ECU to determine MG2 RPM. This is a good example of how a little electronic problem can put the Prius out of service. The failure of a sensor that probably cost $2 would result in a $6K repair if the OP's car was out of warranty.
in another thread been told its most likely the connector on the transaxal if the car was a wreck or rebuild, or even been worked on when this problem codes p0a 40 p0a41 arrise... I have yet to check it out for myself... cars on its way to me... Been told My cousin has changed the engine & gearbox complete from a working prius, & the cars still throwing the same codes as before... which makes me think it is a connector fault, which another member sorted out by a little soldering of pins in the connector housing itself..
When they do a warranty repair like this what warranty do you get on the repair?? Is the powertrain warranty extended beyond 60k??
Replacement parts typically carry a 1 year, unlimited miles warranty. The original warranty still applies as well, if more than 1 year remains, and the mileage cutoff has not been reached.
