Prius rear ended in a hit and run :(. The insurance company suggested taking it to one of their body shops nearby. But i wanted to take it to the dealers esp. since it is a prius. Wanted to know if it is ok to take a prius it a random body shop. The work is hopefully in the bumper/trunk latch area and will not involve transmission or electronics, but i am still a little worried. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Since it's driveable, take it to more than one and get estimates. Also, check out each bodyshop by Googling them looking for complaints, etc., and their BBB ratings. Any shop that works on Toyotas "should" be able to do the job equally well.

Good luck and sorry about the accident.

    PS, welcome to the forum.

So sorry. I hope everything goes smoothly with the repairs.
I hope this isn't some dark response from the haters.

    Ouch--sorry to hear/see that.

Any reputable body shop should be able to repair it.

I might prefer a Toyota dealer body shop, but DO NOT assume that all dealer body shops are competent. Toyota dealer body shop personnel are not necessarily trained by Toyota for body repair, but they should have lots of hands-on experience with similar cars. I agree with someone else's post to get multiple quotes, but be weary of the very low quote. The other issue is whether or not you're getting OE replacement parts. If your insurance company is top notch, they'll help you through this process.
