Today Nissan Canada announced pricing for the all-new Nissan LEAF, the world’s first affordable, mass-marketed all-electric car made for the real-world driving needs of consumers. With an MSRP starting at $38,395, the 2011 Nissan LEAF offers Canadians the first real opportunity to own a zero-emission car that offers them the size, safety, features and comfort they desire to meet their day-to-day driving needs. With its 24 kWh battery, customers in Ontario and Quebec are eligible for a provincial government rebate of $8,500 and $8,000, respectively, toward the cost of a Nissan LEAF, the maximum amount available. WELCOME TO THE NISSAN CANADA MEDIA SITE More importantly, the specs... Seems like the differences from the US model on the base SV is the inclusion of automatic headlights and the Cold Weather Package as standard equipment. To put things into perspective... 2011 Prius Technology Package - $37,395 2011 Altima Hybrid w/ Leather Tech Package & Metallic Paint - $38,433 2011 Camry Hybrid w/ Leather & Nav Package - $36,535 2011 CT200h w/ Technology Package - $39,350 2011 HS250h Premium - $40,850
Those prices all look a bit nutty to an American, esp. considering how the exchange rate is swapped now. The Canadian dollar is worth more than the American dollar. It was already pretty whacky when it started getting close to 1:1.
Everything is always overpriced up here from some reason. A Volt will probably cost $60,000 when they arrive here.
Yeah it's always more expensive up here. It's rare that the car is cheaper or better value. They'll always say "well Canadian spec'd cars have more standard equipment and are better suited to the climate". That just means a slightly different washer fluid dilution ratio, and some extra accessories like floor mats or wheel locks (which seems to be missing in the US on cheaper cars).
