Is there a link or pdf that someone has of a DIY engine oil change I really dont want to take it to the dealer. I know its easy because i change the oil on my mustang and my wifes old car...
Yes you could. Whether it's best to use 0w20 or 5w30 (or 0w30) depends on your climate. Your location says "cc". Is that "Central Chicago" or "California Coast" or what. Ok those are wild guesses, I've got no idea where "cc" is.
Wait a minute, do you have a G2 or G3 Prius ? The 0w-20 is for model year 2010+ 2004 - 2009 use 5w-30 year round, or 0w-20 in the cold winter. You might have to dig a little on John's site for the 04-09 instructions since he now owns the newer model. Addendum: Grab this.
Toyota still recommends 5W-30 for the Gen 2. I have also used 0W-30 but did not see any mpg increase, so I'm back to 5W-30.
Yeah, 5W-30 on your car unless very cold weather (but it's spring!). FWIW, I remember Patrick Wong mentioning in some thread that he tried 0W-20 in his Gen II but the engine was consuming oil, so he went back to the normal stuff, 5W-30.
I live in corpus christi, texas and yes I have a Gen2....it rarely gets cold down...for spring, summer and fall its stays around 70-100 degrees. So I wouldn't think I would need 0w-20 And thanks for the responses
I got a magazine from our local Toyota auto group (Canadian), and of course I've recycled it, but I believe they were saying 0W20 is now approved for all Toyota vehicles.
This thread has a pdf (also Canadian I think), listing vehicles and year for which 0W20 is ok. Says Prius from 2004 onward: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...toyota-now-approves-0w20-in-gen-ii-prius.html
