I need an explanation of the screen's information when the screen reads for "Trip B." What is the meaning of the MPG? Does it mean the MPG since I reset the Trip B meter? Here's the issue: I haven't touched/reset the Trip B meter since I purchased the car about 10 months ago. So, when I bring up the Trip B meter, is the MPG reading on the screen the MPG since I first purchased the car? If so, I think I will never reset the Trip B meter, as it will give me the "lifetime" MPG. If it's something else, I guess I'll have to deal with it. Mike
I believe your correct. I was going to do the same thing, leave Trip B alone for lifetime average...until I accidently reset it
Thanks everyone. I guess being lazy has its rewards. That is until I accidentally reset Trip B. I told myself that this is the last car I will purchase. But, I think the car will probably die before I die. So I might have to amend my prior statement. Mike
Read the Trip B Odometer, which should be visible at the same time. The B MPG refers to that many miles. If those miles don't match the main odometer, then it isn't a lifetime MPG. Don't count on any trip meter readings surviving contact with service technicians. So far, mine have survived only 50% of technician attempts to reset the maintenance reminder.
You bring up another issue: If I ever have to disconnect the battery, will that reset the Trip B meter? I didn't disconnect the battery when I installed the fog lights and the lighted door. I figure it will be reset at some point in time, whether by accident or by some tech or whatever. It wasn't reset when I went in for my first service check. And yes, my Trip B meter is the same as my main odometer. Mike
It may still be 9,999 as it was with the previous gen. After that, the margin-of-error grows beyond the variance anyway. So, the value shown really doesn't represent anything accurate at that point. I use A to measure tanks, B to measure trips. I drive with B showing to get more instantaneous feedback on my driving. To improve the tank MPG, seek to make B MPG > A MPG. For my own personal information, I look at the value of B before I reset it and turn off the car. Record tank information at fillups, and you can derive the lifetime MPG (both MFD and calculated) if you wish.
You're probably right. The picture I saw showed 20000 on Trip A, but it could have been 2000.0. It's hard to see if there is a decimal point there. Update - Change 'probably' to 'exactly.' I looked at the trip meter in the car today and there is a decimal point, so the trip meter will reset to zero after 9,999.9 miles.
