Not to change the subject, But my commute is mostly 55 -65 mph, does this mean I should be running in Power mode down the highway in cruise and get better gas mileage? Picking up mine tomorrow.
I have'nt used the Power mode. I've been running in ECON mode until yesterday. I am trying the normal mode for a while to see if it makes a differance. I don't think you can go wrong with the ECON mode all the time. What kind are you getting, color?
I think it was in that excellent video it was said to run in Normal or ECO mode around town, then ECO mode on the highway. That is how I have been doing it. I do run in Normal mode while in town. It was also said that the modes only vary the pedal response and ECO mode varies the air conditioning for efficient operation. I have used Warp Stealth several times and it seems to boost the mileage. With 457 highway miles running average 65 mph I am at 55.1 on the display. Its really bizarre to drive a vehicle with 4 wheels that gets this kind of mileage!!!! I have an antique Garmin nuvi750 that has been screaming for map updates for a year, you could almost buy a new GPS for what the map updates cost. I dont use if very much as my trip is the same day after day.
Hi Newbies, Hilly Terrain Highway drivers should read this: Prius throttle control and then this: HSI . Hobbit has a technique for 6X mpg driving and 6X mpg he details. It works for hilly terrain primarily. One interesting comment, is the car may get locked into a poor mileage mode, if the throttle is taken all the way up, until its taken all the way off. The cruise control will go to full throttle, or close enough, to cause this fuel wasting mode to be triggered. So, unless you take the car out of cruise control , and get you foot off the pedal for a few seconds, it does not reset.
Sounds good. On the normal mode for 225 miles i've been getting 52mpg. I have to fill up in the AM so we will see what the real MPG are. Anybody have any suggestions using cruse control. I find it easy to use but I have seen some posts that show it hrts your MPG??
great mileage for highway. I got up to 58 on the computer (56 calculated). Great to hear you like the car so much! I'll be contacting you for some tips I can see....
Ill be heading to your area Thursday afternoon to visit the Western Burbs....it will be interesting to see what the trollways do to my mileage.......I do have an iPASS so I wont have to slow down LOL. 144 miles of boredom on US41 followed by 60 miles of pure hell on 294/88..........
Welcome. We are getting 53.4 mpg(hand calc) for our first 2400 miles. We are still learning the skills of driving it.
I had a 2007 Civic which i really liked and AVG 35-36 MPG a week going 760 miles mostly highway. I have had my 2011 Prius for about a month and no matter what I do I AVG 48-49MPG calculated at fill up. This is usually 3MPG lower than the display. As far as 60MPG. You may get it if you have a tailwind but if it’s raining and your going against the wind you will only get around 40MPG. I usually can get 530 miles per fill-up or about 60 miles when the fuel gauge starts blinking. I also feel it is quieter than the Honda.
Just discovered something that maybe all the "old hands" here already know. After driving, I stepped on the brake and hit the power button to shut it off and the car automatically went into Park. Previously I had been putting it into Park, then stepping on the brake and pressing the Power button. Another shortcut!!!!!!!

Reading this only today... :welcome: 170mi commute - wow! my skimpy 20mi total each day to work is nothing... but paying 8-9$/gal is better to drive less... I actually fill up about once a month. The MFD is about 6% optimistic. The speedometer is about 5% to 10% excessive (at least on the EU version). I just hope that the km driven are more accurate...
