:focus: So what's GM been up to with the Aveo? (Made by GM Daewoo, a GM subsidiary.) Apparently the Aveo went on sale in the USofA in 2006, -- ("Baseball, apple pie [in the sky] and Chevrolet!"-- cute.) By 2007, it had established iself as a "least satisfying" car to drive. In 2009, it still held that distinction. But GM continued to offer this GM Korea gem. Why? To discredit Korean cars by association? Fat chance, Huyandai has been slowly, steadily, dramatically improving. To build first time buyer loyalty, or a commitment to quality? I don't think so. Profitability? That ain't no SUV. So, just why has GM continued to foist this loser, a "tin box that gets bad mileage for a tin can on wheels," on American car buyers with a limited budget? As a minority owner of GM I'd like to know. It has been said that each vehicle sold by GM costs taxpayers $12,200. Does this figure also apply to each rebadged, imported "shitbox" sold? Doesn't Bob Lutz owe somebody a public apology, if not Aveo buyers, than all of us who have bankrolled his retirement package?
It is very surprising to hear that Malibu is great. I went for a new car purchase and i was told RAV4 is better than Malibu. May be i need to check again.
The person you quoted is a Chevy dealer. I would buy a RAV4 over a Malibu, but those two vehicles are not really in the same class.
FWIW, Aveo is produced by Daewoo, badged by Chevy here. Not too awfully impressed with Chevrolet - even the ICE in the Cruize is from Opel in Austria.
I think there is a good reason. When you bring your crappy domestic car in for repair (as you do often), they give you an Aveo as a courtesy car. By the time yours is fixed you are so appalled at the Aveo that even your other crappy domestic seems like the best thing since non-sliced bread after sliced-bread! If they had given you anything else you would realize your foolishness for purchasing the crap being repaired in the first place and be pissed off when you go to settle your bill. This was it is almost like they are doing you a favour getting you out of the Aveo and into whatever else
