When I was parking my car I scratched the plastic lip that extends about 2 inches under the front of the car. Actually I've also scratched the plastic under the front as well but I scuffed the lip this time. You can see it from the front wheel wells. What exactly is this lip for ? Is it just a 'curb feeler' ?
I believe it serves an aero function. While they do a lot of feeling curbs I don't think that is the intent. If so they were poorly designed for durability
Most cars have the lip just not the Prius. I hate it when the cement parking blocks are higher than normal. You get a nice grind to remind you that you pulled up too far.
As previously stated it has to be for the aerodynamics aspect. But I must say I've also felt so many parking blocks now that the spoiler can damn near clear any curb or block.
It's a spoiler--somebody posted the parts list describing it as such in another thread on this topic.
OP - I have the same problem and have guffed my "lip" a couple of times now. I got some touch-up paint from my dealer and carefully touched up the lip. I think I'm the only one who knows the damage, but it has made me very cautious when pulling into a parking spot. I'm usually a foot back from the cement block. That "lip" is rather fragile.
