I'm thinking of renting one of those Zip Cars in my town to buy and transport a new bed to my apartment.. and 80% of the Zip Cars are a recent Prius model. Does anyone have experience and know if a full (or even queen) size bed would fit in a Prius hatchback?
If you mean a mattress and springs, no. If you mean a steel frame, then it might be possible. Giant four-poster headboard and foot board, no. Inflatable mattress or water bed, definitely. You might look for a furniture store with free delivery!
I moved a box spring. mattress, and folded frame round trip CT/NJ twice in my 2004 Prius. My wife had to drive and I folded into the passenger seat as both seats had to be fully forward (no leg room left). JeffD
The mattresses from IKEA that come rolled up fit quite nicely. The bendy latex ones fit, too, but you'll need help stuffing it in. A regular mattress might fit with some effort and contortions, but probably not a box spring. (Although, I haven't actually tried.)
The only thing I cannot fit in my Prius is a 4x8 sheet of whatever. A full size mattress is 54in x 75in which is more than 4ft wide. So it will NOT fit. A twin size mattress is 39in x 75in which should fit, as should a single.
I used to carry an inflatable Coleman twin-size matress in my Genii. It fit perfectly. I would use it on camping trips or longer drives to see my friend Hyo.
