Hey guys, I would like to add that I have had my Prius III for almost 3 months and about 2600 miles. I really like the car as it is, but two things bother me. I am in a wheelchair and I have to lean my arms on the armrest and console and I just wish they would have put some padding in those places (just a 1/2 inch would have been great). I also wish they would have put a better antenna on for the XM. My Honda Odyssey does not drop the signal as much as my Prius. Could it be the radio is not as good? I was told by the dealer that it was the height difference between the antennas but I am no dummy in the approximate 1 1/2 feet of difference will not change the line of sight path from a satellite that is about 23 miles away. So that leaves on three options: 1) bad antenna 2) bad radio 3)poor build quality in the radio. Can any of you people offer me any idea about this radio??? Has anyone had this issue and how was it taken care of? Thanks Crash
Hey crash, Glad you are liking the Prius. I would imagine you could have an upholstery place add padding to those surfaces reasonably, or even try yourself. You would probably need pretty dense pad for durability. The radio is a known issue. Latest theory is EMF interference and or poor build quality. No complete fix determined.
The 3 has the JBL system and for what its worth it sounds OK. Is it the same head unit as the base stereo except with XM and better speakers? The reason I got it is because I didn't want to take a chance at using after market equipment and have problems with the car. I haven't used 3rd party equipment after my 99 3 series BMW. It always had little gremlins because of the radio I had put in it. A Prius has a lot more intricate electronics and I didn't want any more nagging issues with the car. I had heard the radio sucked and that was my reason for going to the JBL. Is the head unit JBL or just the speakers? Thanks for the input guys. Crash
You might look at Leatherz.com, they make extra padding for the Prius Center consul and armrests, they come in leather or fabric. I don't have them yet but I read about them on this forum. Thinking about getting them to raise the height for more comfort. Hope you are enjoying your new car.::welcome:
