Help! I have a 2009 Prius, and the reverse beep really annoys me. So I decided to look on-line on how to disable it, and saw the directions: have the odometer show, turn vehicle off, turn vehicle on & immediately press odometer button for 20 seconds, put into reverse, put into park. I did this. I now have no reverse. At all. No reverse camera, no reverse gear (and no reverse beep). I tried repeating the same steps, but reverse doesn't show back up. If I put the car into drive, the reverse position shows but the car doesn't actually go into the gear. I'm desperate! I've been searching on line but can't find anything that references this. Help! Anne
Do the same thing again and it may default back to normal and if it does learn to live with the beep. Hal
Disconnect the negative side of the 12v battery for about 5 minutes. It will reset everything (including your radio presets).
I can redo my radio presets, not an issue! I'll go try that & will report back. (Sorry to be stereotypical, but I'm going to wait until my husband can help me, so I won't be back for about a half hour.) Anne
Well, that was discouraging. It didn't work. We disconnected the negative side of the 12v battery for 5 minutes. Still no reverse. (The radio presets are gone, as expected.) ???
Maybe your gear selector is not working. Can you shift into D, B, and N? If your car is still covered by the 3 year / 36K mile comprehensive warranty then you should let your local Toyota dealer's service dept figure out what is wrong.
Usually disconnecting the battery will reset everything, including the reverse beep. So it was worth a try to get you out of your fix. This may take a trip to the dealer...
Because cars are getting more computerized all the time, it is a good idea idea to treat it like a computer, especial the Prius. 1. Don't Panic 2. Shut power down and try to restart 2-3 times. 3. Reboot (removing neg bat lead and reconnecting) I installed a switch to coveniently do this without taking the trunk apart. This way I do not encounter sparks and can disconnect and park at Airport for lengthly periods without running the battery down. Toyota should put this mod in on all thier cars.
Every experience provides a learning opportunity. In this case, it would appear as though rockvillage found a way to literally remove the [R] gear from a Prius(?). Now for the fun part: who wants to try to repeat this?
