SAAB's had more than its fair share of troubles lately, and has gone through several recent ownership changes. According to this article today, Swedish courts have rejected the application for protection from creditors, and bankruptcy is imminent.

I remember my neighbor's Saab (the upsidedown bath tub model) Where you had to pull the screen down to cover the radiator to get heat. The first grille blocking technique LOL
Once GM assumed ownership, it was all over for SAAB automobiles as far as I was concerned. The 900 Aero was a sweet car, I often lusted after one in my younger days. And that convertible in the movie Sideways is as much of a character as Jack, Miles, Maya or Stephanie.
I always wanted the 900 (and actually the 9-5 wagon after GM took over wasn't that bad a looker either). But you can't stay stagnant for 10-15 years and not bring in any new models (no the 9-2X and 9-7X don't count)
Saab's made some interesting and unique vehicles over the years. Weren't they the ones that analysed crash test dummies and found key holes in their heads, and then moved the ignition from the dash to the console? The design skills seem to be there - it's too bad the financing part has brought them down. Everything has to be done right for a company to be successful.
The way the ignition key was between the seats, and locked the transmission instead of the steering, was genius. I believe that's the reason for its placement although marketing types might have come up with the crash test dummy issue a bit later on.
haha. I've heard of the former but not of the latter. Hmm, I still have the brochure for the Saab 900 from 1995. It's actually quite a thick brochure (at least 20 pages IIRC).
