I'm contemplating buying a 2003 Prius with 125,000 miles. Reportedly, it's mechanically sound, always serviced at a Toyota dealer. (I'll have my mechanic check it out.) The battery was replaced at 85,000 miles. Any thoughts or advice appreciated. Thanks in advance from Prius newbie.
Battery replacement sounds good. There are a few more quirks with the 2001-2003 models, such as the sticky HCAC valve, higher transaxle failure rate, steering rack. Take it for a good long test drive and make sure that the mileage is in the 40s with a mild driving style. If it just doesn't feel right, pass. Purchase price should be in the mid thousands, $5K +/-
I had an '01, almost the same car as an '03. It was a good little economy car, reliable, good visibility, good turning radius. 125k miles is no problem. Would buy again. We have a forum for that model at: http://priuschat.com/forums/generation-1-prius-discussion/
