Hey all, I just dropped a deposit on my Prius. The dealer is locating it now. I want a Blue Ribbon Prius III (I really want the JBL and Bluetooth). Up until today I had often contemplated a Prius, but had never even driven one. I think it took, maybe an entire 300 feet before I was sold. The car, as you know, is just so cool. The dealer made a comment about the Prius not being quick. I just smiled and shared with him my thoughts on performance, something I'm sure that's been echoed here: with minivans making nearly 300hp, the "new definition of performance" lies within how much a car can do with how little. Or something like that. This is my 3rd Toyota in a row. My trade is an 08 Camry. I love that car but hate some of the clunks and squeeks and rattles it was making. So I'm treating myself to my first new car since 1996. I can't wait until they locate it so I can grab it and go. I have a roadtrip planned for this weekend. I hope I can take my new Prius! Cheers!
You're going to run into some clunks and rattles with your prius. But the car is so cool that it just doesn't matter. Turn up the radio and tune out the rattle or two and enjoy your new car!
Thanks for the kind welcome. As to the break-in, I'll do a search, but I'm curious what your take is on proper break-in. With my motorcycles, I've approached them by getting them up to operating temperature then running gradually harder and harder with each warm up/cool-down cycle (not redline, not full throttle, but enough throttle, on and off, to properly seat the piston rings), then changing the oil frequently with non-synthetic for the first 50 and then couple hundred miles to flush out all the metal and other garbage. But this is a hybrid, with all that entails (CVT, battery, electric motor, etc) and the dealer said Toyota recommends synthetic...so..does the Prius come with synthetic fill from the factory? I'm just not sure what I'm up against.
Please read over the owner's manual that was included... it covers the break-in procedure in detail. It is not much compared to days of old but something that should be taken into account. Basically don't travel at high speeds or brake hard for the first grand. Try to vary the speed if in for the long haul as you mentioned you were going on soon. Yes, it comes from the factory with syn. I changed out mine around 1,200 just because. Using M1 now and on 7,500 OCI due to the harsh winters up here.
