After last maintenance at dealer where I got my Prius. I get two or three times of "Key not Detected" message per week when I try to start the car. I have to push start button several times for the car to detect key and start up properly. However, I don't have issue to unlock door by placing hand on the sensor and enter driver's seat. Any suggestion as to where to start? I thought it was battery issue, but that wouldn't explain why I don't have any issue unlocking the driver door by placing hand on the sensor, which I always do before I push the start button.
I have also posted a similar thread regarding this issue. Please refer to my thread when one other poster has responded. We are still looking for resolution/explaination. two different key fobs in one prius
I'd replace the battery in the keyfob just because it's the simplest thing to try. If it's weak, the range could be reduced, leading to it working sometimes and not others. It's a CR1632 in the Gen3 keyfob.
A cellphone in the same pocket as the FOB can interfere with the system as can local transmitters. You can check the FOB battery voltage but you have to remove it to do so. Should be 3V or higher.
