Glue/paste squeezing out from the engine.

    Hey guys - I recently saw what appears to be glue or some type of paste coming out of my engine. I think it may have been there the entire life of the car, but I'm not sure. Is this something I should be worried about, or should I let it slide?

    Mine is the same way, almost in the same spot just over to the left of there.

    Looks like RTV Gasket (sealant).

    frodoz737 is correct. That's sealant applied where the perimeter seal overlaps.

    Thank you guys for the input. Should I have them do anything about this? I don't want more issues arising from them trying to fix it if I can just leave it alone.

    That's just what I'll do! Thanks! Could I pull off the gunk that squeezed out, though, so it doesn't look bad?

    I just can't believe I wouldn't have noticed this earlier from all the time I have looked at my engine compartment. This would have had to of happened during manufacturing, right? As in, it would have had to be there the life of the car, am I right? I just hope it doesn't cause any problems. I just don't recall that being there, and I don't know why it all of a sudden oozed out.

    First I would like to thank you for posting a pic of the issue. Way to many people post things like this without a pic. Everyone has a cell phone with a camera, why not use it.

    Mine looks identical except my engine is showing a lot more wear after 73,000 miles in Cleveland’s salty winters.

    I took a second look. It is exactly like yours. Don't cut, it leave it.

    If you want, on your next dealer visit make them put a comment on your account that you have this and if any thing happens you have a record of it before the expiration of 36,000 miles.

    It's normal; I'd leave it as-is. Liquid gasket of some sort has been applied to a joint. The only way to ensure none squeezes out is to not apply enough.

    Just a comment to those saying leave it.

    If it's just a lump that has squeazed out and is hanging there? As it appears in the photos. Why would cutting it and removing it hurt anything? It obviously isn't doing anything just hanging there.

    I wouldn't worry about it. But I'd remove it.

    The "squeeze-out" of this type of form-a-gasket material is intended. It acts as a lock to prevent the gasket from shifting or loosening and leaking.

    Don't cut it off.
