Here is the ScanGauge thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...discussion/64406-scangaugeii-work-2010-a.html If it can be done it will be there. But I don't think oil pressure or oil temperature are on the ODB.
There is no oil pressure sensor on the Prius, therefore there is no way to know the pressure. Ken@Japan
Even better, use a "T" FORGET the sender and run a nylon line to a mechanical gauge. They're usually much more accurate and instant in responding to oil pressure.
Maybe more instant in responding to changes, and maybe slightly more accurate, but not much in either case; and only then when properly installed and bled (purged of air). My biggest concern with wet guages is the possibility of leak fail, due to added lines, fittings, vibrations, etc. Think airplane - oil loss puts you on the ground, period.
I added a "T", a sender and an oil gauge to my 1966 mustang a few years back. It warned me of a drop in oil pressure in time to save the engine. The only drawback was that the oil leak was at the "T". JeffD
We've installed mechanical gauges on various vehicles for over twenty years and have never experienced a failure or problem of any kind. Properly installed high quality gauges and accompanying fittings pose absoutely no problems whatsover. They are MUCH more accurate that most electrical gauges in our experience.
Here's a thought. What good is an oil gauge going to do on an engine that doesn't run continuously? Driving here in the Dallas metro, my motor starts and stops FREQUENTLY. I suspect you would probably get dizzy watching the gauge go up and down. Why in the heck, with modern oil and motor technology, would anyone want an oil pressure gauge on a Prius? I was a licensed mechanic 40 years ago when oil pressure gauges were important ... and engines didn't shut off every time you took your foot off the gas pedal.
I think I would be more interested in knowing oil temperature than oil pressure. I would like to know how it tracks coolant temperature and if 0W20 oil really runs cooler than thicker oils. But it would just be to satisfy my curiosity I don't expect any lubrication related problems.
I think you just explained exactly why Toyota did not provide the oil pressure signal nor the tachometer signal. Can you imagine all of the questions and complaints they would have received when the tachometer varied all over the place at constant speed and both the tachometer and the oil pressure went to zero every time the ICE stopped ?
Actually there is a tachometer signal available in addition to the one on the ODB, here is a thread http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-technical-discussion/73707-tach-signal.html
Tom, Yes, I read the ICE RPM with SGII. What I meant was "readily available" for customer view. It is nice to know where the physical wire is located for those that need to use it. Thanks, Dwight
