Non-Nav Prius. I just bought a 2010 with 11000 miles. Still trying to get used to the car. I would like to have better backup views via a back-up camera. I have search several aftermarket systems that clip to the mirror and have a screen for the camera. Has anyone tried one of these and do you have any suggestions on a system they like.
Welcome aboard! I have one through my after-market head unit, but you can get ones with a screen in the rear-view mirror. There are a few options. Check with your local car audio dealer.
For info about installing rear camera and getting the signal down to the front, check out the cheap ebay camera thread. There are also links to some documents for a rear view mirror install if you don't want to swap the head unit. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...21-new-camera-install-cheap-ebay-cameras.html
The Magellan version is wireless, but still has to get a 12 volt signal from the backup lights. With a factory installed backup camera, there is a wire in the harness for that purpose going up into the tailgate. Is that wire present in cars that don't have the factory installed camera? I know in a lot of cases the same wiring harness is used in all cars and wires for unused features are still there, just not connected on one end.
The wiring is there and all that is needed is to install a OEM rear view camera & it works just like OEM.i did this on a 2012 Prii not too long ago
have a look at my Pri C thread in my Sig. you can see the mirror i installed. its not the cheap clip ons and was fairly expensive but i love it.
