Recently I drove in to a huge puddle of water, and since then my car has not been the same. Two sets of problems started happening almost immediately.

Various functions on the cluster are not working, such as the speedometer (reads zero no matter what speed I go), odometer (remains at 28,787) and the gas meter which fluctuates constantly.

Also, the break system is just out of whack completely. It simply isn't working well at all. Attached are two pictures of the dashboard.

I went to a local mechanic, and he suggested having the cluster and brake sensors replaced with brand new ones. What do you guys think?

If the puddle you went through was that huge and deep, enough that you think it caused problems like those you describe I wouldn't just take a Prius to a local mechanic for troubleshooting. I'd visit a Toyota service deaprtment and have them look into the problem, see what they say. Just me.

Perhaps at least one of the four ABS speed sensors is flooded. No guess as to why the gas gauge is acting up.

I agree with Paradox, take it to a Toyota dealer and let them find the problems.

I'm very afraid of the expenses taking the car to the toyota service department will incur. But it seems I have no choice at this point. Thanks for the advice.

Which would be great if the OP's problems are not related or found to be related to driving through water too deep.

Just don't tell them about the deep water. Tell them the problems started after the last rain storm.

It would be very interesting to hear just what REALLY the "deep puddle" was.........with all of whats going on with the car, sounds more like a POND or LAKE ! The Prius is NOT a boat !

    Interesting.

Your warranty coverage is 3 years, 36000 miles for this sort of thing.
