The reason CARB was formed was quite evident today as I saw the snow-capped peaks of the western mountain playgrounds from my office in Rancho Cordova... You could not see them when I was a boy... the smog stopped that... Today... was a beautiful day in Rancho Cordova... and CARB was the main reason that today, I got to see the mountains from Sactown. I know they ain't popular around a lot of places I frequent (this place being one of the exceptions)... but still... the view was there today... it wasn't when I was a boy.
The view was just as clear yesterday; I saw them driving up 99 to Sacramento from Stockton. Yes, they're a sight alright - they're alarmingly bare of snow. That range should be all eye-smarting white broken only by scattered dark splotches of rock, but it's all dark with only a few thin drips of white. If we don't get any storms next winter we're going to have to truck water in at $5 a quart and may have to close down a carwash or two.
