Date: 2nd February 2011 Total Dist: 22,448km / 14030mi Tank Dist: 699.9km / 437.4mi MFD: 4.9L/100km or 48mpg US Calc'd: 5.41L/100km or 43.5mpg US Fuel Added: 37.846 litres or 9.999 US gal Average Speed: 32km/h or 20mph Remarks: This tank was filled with premium fuel (AKI91/RON95) because my usual station ran out of regular fuel. Compared to the last tank, it doesn't seem to make a difference (similar conditions with a week of -20°C/-4°F and then above freezing temps and then back down again).

I was driving my friend around town for the last 200km of the tank and yet I couldn't seem to get the engine to warm up. I found out that one of the slits in the lower grille was open (must've lost the insulation somewhere). It's amazing how much a difference it makes. At -20°C/-4°F, I just couldn't get the engine warm enough even though I've driven on the highway (80km/h/50mph) and did a total of 80km that night. It'll shut off in ECO mode but it will run in normal mode. Temp was set a little higher than I normally would since I had a passenger (22°C/72°F)
Date: 22nd January - 19th February 2012 Total Dist: 701.1km / 438.2mi Tank Dist: 37815km / 23634mi MFD: 4.7L/100km or 50mpg US Calc'd: 5.11L/100km or 46mpg US Fuel Added: 38.840 litres or 10.26 US gal Average Speed: 34km/h or 21mph Remarks: Daytime highs near freezing. Many short trips but only 2mpg better than last year (see above).
Total Dist: 31,544.75 km / 19601 mi Tank Dist: 1,937.71 km / 644.8 mi MFD: 3.658 L/100km or 64.3 mpg US Calc'd: 3.872 L/100km or 60.74 mpg US Fuel Added: 40.188 litres or 10.616 US gal Average Speed: 28.97 km/h or 18 mph Notes: tire pressure(50 psi front, 48 psi rear), 100% grill blocking (even so I'm usually 55 minutes into my commute before the coolant[FwT]=181 F degrees) ScangaugeII (FwT/Avg, RPM, SoC, GPH)*, E10 RFG 87 octane, No Defroster, No AC/Heat, Windows rolled up, regular one way commute trip = 15 miles/60 minutes (down hill in the morning, uphill in the evenings, 200 feet change in elevation, smooth asphalt roads all the way). Driving temperatures: 37 F to 60 F with the average close to 50 F degrees which is unseasonably warm for the Washington DC area. I'm in ECO mode most of the time. I'm mainly using hypermiling techniques DWL, DWB, Rigid riding, and P&G. I do mini P&G during traffic jams and during my initial warmups. When the opportunities presents itself I'll go into SHM. My entire mileage log is under "HyperDrive 1" on the website Cleanmpg.com. (*) The main use of the ScangaugeII is to keep/train my accelerations to so that GPH<1.20, to avoid using the electric motors when SoC < 50%, and to remove the grill blocking if FwT >= 200 F.
