On my Prius III with the JBL headunit, the specs show that it comes with a 90 day trial subscription. However, I do not have the navigation system. Someone told me that only the navigation-equipped cars contain the necessary hardware to be XM ready. However, I am not sure if this is true. Does my car, given its current configuration (just JBL headunit, no navigation), have all of the hardware necessary for XM Satellite Radio? Thanks.
I think it just has to be a JBL system (with/without Nav), to be XM ready, at least from the last page in the attached document. Our package has JBL but not Nav, and does work with XM. Push the AM/Sat button, and see if you can tune channel 001 (XM Preview), and then tune it to channel 000: see if it shows your radio ID. This is needed for XM.
I have the three, jbl-non nav and the xm tuner is built into the radio, so you will get XM. I believe the navigation version comes with an external XM tuner with XM traffic.
Yes, a Prius III (3) has XM with or without navigation. Call and subscribe to reactivate it. There are threads on Priuschat in which people list the number to call and what to try and do to get deals. I posted along with many others that we have got a year for $77 plus some bs fees which makes it a total of about $86-88 for one year.
For the 2011 Prius III I can tell you for a fact that XM is integrated into the JBL factory head unit and the factory installed XM antenna plugs directly into the back of the JBL Head Unit. I don't know about the Nav units.
