Haven't bought a new car since 1974! We are trying to sell a 1990 Toyota Corolla we've used all these years, such wonderful cars!! I really need to read manual. Got the car on Fri 3/30,model 3, and still need to figure the sequence of shutting off. OK,everyone stop laughing! When do you press "P"? I stop w/break,press start button, press P button and put on break with my foot. I really thing I've got something wrong??? Does the 3 have the mirrors that fold in? Setting up the radio should be fun---NOT! So many bells and whistles.
No need to press the "P" button. Just hold down the brake and press the blue start-stop button to both start and stop.
P button is only after you have stopped where you need to be and want to put the car in Park. When starting, you just need to undo the Emergency Brake if you have it on, hold down the brake pedal so you can start the car like you normally would and then shift into Drive or Reverse. To my knowledge, the cars do not have folding side mirrors. I have the v 5 model and it does not. The car should not be as crazy big as some of the trucks out their that should require folding mirrors.
Thank you all for the help. I'll just use the "P" when idleing car/not getting out, otherwise I don't use it to shut-off car completely.
The car does have htd folding ext mirrors(looked at manual) and some one said"using brakes will be costly in the end" or something like that---what does that mean?
That referred to breaking the car, as in your original post, not braking the car. Probably a generic owners manual item held over from Toyota's non-smartkey cars. My 2010 manual also mentions this key, but I cannot remember any Prius owner ever mentioning getting one. Due to the electronics, it would be just as bulky and expensive as a regular key.
