I hope this isn't something that has been discussed before - I did search for a few minutes and didn't find anything. I also did some searching on Amazon.com and the web and didn't find anything, even though it seems like a very basic question. Can anyone recommend a good sun shade for the front windshield on my 2012 Prius Four? I know there's the Heatshield sun shade in the Priuschat shop, but it has so-so reviews, and I would really prefer the fabric type that twists into a small disc to store when you're not using it. But the only ones I've found in the local auto shop were way too small for my Prius, they don't even cover the space from the front of the dash to the visors so I can't even keep them in place. I don't care if it's cheaply made, as long as it's a real sun shade that is big enough to fit my car and that folds up into a disk, I would be very happy!
You will be hard pressed to find a quality sun shade that really works and folds into a tidy little disk. I have the one from the PriusChat shop and it works very well. It is thick so it is harder to fold up than the disk types but it also works better than any other shade I've ever owned.
I agree with F8L. Hard to find one that will provide the fit and protection as the HeatShields sold here and roll up into a small package. Takes a little more time and practice rolling and unrolling but I like it. You just have to make sure you keep rolling it tight enough to get the Velcro fasteners to reach.
As noted, the size of the windshield creates challenges. However, the Heatshield is high quality at a reasonable price. One warning...the front interior fuzzy pillars in the Prius are fragile. If you fit a sunscreen in contact with the pillars, the result is creases in the fuzzy material. Just position the sunscreen to avoid a tight fit against these pillars in order to avoid damage to the interior of your car. Other Chat members have pointed out that the Prius has UV glass. If your check the printed information on your glass, the UV designation is clearly labeled. I am considering having a window tint installed on the side glass but may settle with wearing sunglasses.
