I guess this is not Prius v specific, but Iwonder if I can get some advise. My v is one month old, and as I changed from v8 SUV, I have been very careful with the clearlance at the bottom. The other day, I noticed a small yet deep scratch below the door - at the lowest part of the side. It is about an inch in length but it is deep - deep enough to show the black coat underneith. It is almost like it was done by a sharp blade. I am not interested in having it painted as it is such a small scratch, but I do not want the scratch to get worse to be volunable to rust and paint chip. Any suggestion to prevent it from getting worse? I checked the forums, but many are from pre-2010. I wonder if some new technologies have emerged? Thanks!!
Unless you see any inkling of rust, a clear coat or even clear nail polish would keep rust out, Just don't lay int on thick, since finger nail polist contains lacque solvents. If you see rust, it better to let it accumulate a little bit of rust and to use a phosphate rust converter, before appying clear nail polish/ Clear finger nail polish is one of the toughest coating available anywhere. Hope this helps.
If it's the same as a 2011 Prius, then is plastic! I had scratched mine by clearing off my boots from the snow. And when I saw that I freaked, I am one of those people who spend money on high end sealant and waxes for my Prius. Sounds like you need to do a touch up, Maybe someone on this site has tried it, seen it advertised as Dr. Color chip. Looks good but haven't tried it. Found some hand scratch remover in the auto section at Walmart and after 6 or 7 tries with it, it removed all the minor scratches out of my lower door molding. Hope this helps!
Just get touchup paint from your dealer or auto parts store. As mentioned, it is plastic and will not rust or degrade. No need for high priced repairs or repair products.
