I just bought a new Prius V and love it. The only think that I'm annoyed about is the car beeps when I have the lights on and the drivers door open. Given that the lights are going to go off in 30 seconds anyway this beeping isn't a useful reminder of anything. I have tried changing the auto off timer to 0 and everything works like I would expect. When I open the door the lights immediately go off and there is no beeping. However, while getting out of my dark garage at night having the lights stay on for a while would be helpful. I have poked around this forum and it doesn't sound like anyone else's Prius does this. In fact, I saw a couple of threads where people were concerned about the lack of beeping. Is there a setting that I am missing? Thanks!
Let me ask the question a different way. Can I get some people to confirm that this is not how their Prius V works? If so I can bring it in to the dealership and see if they know what is wrong. Thanks!
I have a v5 and mine operate like yours. If I turn the lights to "on" and then open the door I get beeps but the lights eventually turn off. Now if I use "auto" which I think is only on the 5 trim, the lights stay on when I get out of the car, granted it is dark outside or in my garage and there is no beeping. Personally I like the idea of the DRL like lights but my wife freaks out about the beeps and just turns the lights off. Maybe using the "timeout" value will help to find a happy medium. Mostly I get no use out of the auto and it causes all kinds of issues when it rains during the daytime. -Tim
Here is a simple thought, why not put a motion sensor on a garage light so your garage is not dark when you pull in. If you do not have a Garage Door Opener, invest in one, they have lights, and they turn themselves off after a preset limit!!
I don't think you're missing anything - my v3 does the same thing (if I'm reading your post correctly). I leave the lights on, open the door, and it beeps until I close the door. But then the lights go out on their own. I'd love to find a way to disable that beep... Andy
Update - just realized that since I changed the "headlight delay time" to 0 seconds, there's no more beep! However, if you DO want the headlights to stay on for a while, but DON'T want the beep, I think you're stuck... Good luck!
I asked my dealer about this and they said that, even though the lights go off after the preset time, they cannot turn off the warning chime. Doesn't make sense to me!
I can confirm that this is still the way the 2014 V 3 is set to operate. Has anyone discovered a way to disable the beep? I didn't even realize they would go off after a preset time until just now. Given that I now know that, the beep is really stupid. Its warning you for no reason.
It's warning you for no reason, because your lights will go off in 30 seconds and it is inconsequential that they are on. 30 seconds doesn't matter. X
