I just bought a 2010 Prius IV. I didn't pay attention to it not having an auto light feature which I miss and Daylight Running Lights. Here in WV we are required to have our lights on when using wipers. I know I can turn on the headlights and the instrument dimmer switch to high so you can see the instruments during daylight. I don't have fog lamps and wonder if there is a mod kit to use the Fog Lamp space and put in DRLs.
i think that's the requirement in many states including New York. Around here at least, not many people actually follow the rule. In my previous car I installed a RainTracker (www.raintracker.com) that automatically turned on the wipers in the rain and adjusted the speed of the wiper according to how much water is falling on your windshield. The RT-50 kit also comes with headlight controls to automatically turn on high beams, low beams, or foglights, your choice, when it gets dark out or when the wipers are on. If you are feeling adventurous I can also send you the diagrams for hooking the whole thing up to another device that sounds a warning beep and closes all your windows. That whole system was hardwired to a constant 12V with a kill switch so in the summer I could leave my car windows open when I park and not worry about rain. What about theft you say? If they really want something in my car, I'd prefer they take it without breaking my windows. I tried wiring it up to the convertible top motor so I can park with the entire roof down but it was too much trouble or perhaps unsafe for the battery to keep the top folding motor energized with the ignition off.
