We recently purchased an 08 Prius. We have the choice of 2 routes to take to a destination and would like to know which one uses less fuel. Our Volvo was able to let us know how many gallons of fuel it took to drive a certain distance but I cannot find a way to calculate it on the Prius. I assume there is a counter for the fuel since there is an mileage averaging indicator. Does anyone know if there is a way to access the output of the fuel counter, the output could just be a pulse count since all I need is a relative number for fuel consumption?

My 2012 has a direct readout at shutdown time. But my 2010 did not, and I don't recall owners of older models ever mentioning it. So you will need to do it the old fashioned way: use a trip meter to measure segment distance and MPG, then do your own calculation of gallons used.

A ScanGauge will show gallons used, but it much too expensive for this purpose alone.

On the 2008 you can reset the MPG display.
On the Energy Monitor screen press the Consumption button - you then see the MPG since the last time you reset it and/or refilled the tank. You can use the Reset button to measure the trip consumption.

Thanks, that will do the job. If your tip was a snake it would have bit me. :) Thanks again.
