Anyone using those? I am tired of the run off from the commercial washer fluid leaving green or blue marks of their own on my white paint. Is the 303 solution clear? Does it clean well? Does it mix well?
Homebrew Washer Fluid w/303 - Distilled Water? | PriusChat I just received my 25 pack of tabs. Once I run out of washer fluid in the next week or so, I will mix up a gallon and try it.
Cool. Let us know how well it works out for you. I plan on using softened water from my water softerner.
BTW does anyone know 1) the capacity of the washer system; 2) if there is a low fluild warning. I do not see a warning light for it and did not find if the MID would display a message for low washer fluild warning; 3) My understanding is the same tank feeds the windshield washer + headlight washer + rear washer. Is that correct?
What about freeze protection? MB and Porsche both sell an additive that you put into standard fluid that makes the fluid foam as well as increase the cleaning power. I find it works great and we have a couple of white cars .. Can't say the blue is an issue. Also if you have the LED's and you'r in a cold climate it is important that the wash fluid has antifreeze in it as well as the foam -- that way in the winter the liquid will stick to any ice and melt it off of the lights --- LED's and HID's don't produce enough heat to met ice in the winter time.
I plan on getting some Prestone De-icer additive come winter time. They are getting hard to find. Store only stock them after a hard freeze or two locally, which totally defeats the point of being prepared.
The capacity is a little more than 1 gal. Hyundai and Honda both advise using the 303 tablets as a supplement to winter fluids so hopefully it is a quality product. iPhone ?
Tried the 303 stuff. Either it is the tap water quality here or bad luck, but this stuff does not foam much at all. It wipes fairly cleanly but subjectively, it seems weak in comparison to a bug wash. I will report back once I go through more of it. As a side note, I wonder what my local Toyota dealer is using. Their stuff is clear but is incredibly foamy and works great. Ford sells their concentrate for $6/32 oz bottle (1:100 ratio) and it is also clear...I wonder if it is that stuff.
We did not like the Prestone yellow fluid in the gallon container -- same looking bottle as the Prestone coolant - they call it de-icer ... it left a film on the glass. Do be careful if you are in a cold area -- I bought a case of blue fluid a couple of years ago and had to drain it out when I discovered that my local Pep Boys sold fluid without freeze protection -- I was a bit pissed that they would even sell this kind of fluid.
Thanks for the update. Did you use straight tap water or sofened water? Is the water known to be hard in your area? Did it dissove well? Foaming aside, did it take off dead bugs, tree sap, etc?
I used straight tap, and tap water is not known to be of the best quality in this area. I can try again with distilled. I really need to go drain this mix out; it does little cleaning at all.
