James, did you reserve your plate early on? I tried last fall with several versions of the words plug, plug in, etc and wasn't able to come up with any that weren't already taken. This was through my local office of the Auto Club, and they were able to run up the possibilities and get an immediate answer online. I know we tried "plug in" but don't remember if we tried a digit following. I had "MPG U4EA" on my '06; maybe I should have kept it. Anyway, congrats on a neat plate.
I applied for the plate in early May just after I got the car. The following were already taken: Plugin Plugin1 Plugin2 I didn't want to be plug in 3 so I chose 0 But now I wish I had tried some other combination
I tried to get PLUGIN1 But the State of Michigan said it was offensive! PLUGIN was already taken. I found out who took it when I went to the Electric Car Show at Schoolcraft College. It was on a Ford Fairlane converted to electric.
Wow, somebody converted an old Ford! That's interesting. We get that sort of thing here in California, especially Hollywood, with the likes of Ed Begley Jr., etc. BTW, I'm from Davison, near Flint, and my wife is from Detroit (nr Seven Mile Rd/Greenfield). We both were brought to California as children, but have visited Michigan many times during our married life to visit relatives.
Wife's family home was on Sussex, just off Greenfield. Last time we were through there, nearly twenty years ago, the neighborhood had deteriorated from when we visited her father there in the mid-seventies. He moved out here a couple of years later. She has a cousin out at Port Sanilac, right on the lake. Now that's some pretty country!
Saw a bit on "60 Minutes" a while back showing all the vacant houses in Detroit. The city was starting a program to tear them down and allow the neighbors to take over the property as extended gardens, lawns, etc. Is that what you mean by "farmland"?
I have a cousin who was an EMT in Detroit for a number of years. He had some real stories to tell. Also had a great-uncle who was a Detroit policeman in the twenties, and my wife had an uncle who was a motorcycle cop there later on. I was two and she was four when we each came to California. But we still feel our "roots" are in Michigan! I'm one of four siblings, and my younger sister is the only one born in California. She retired to Davison. Go figure.....
