Time for my 30K change and I want to change the air filter (not cabin filter) on my own. Can anyone point me to a resource to explain.

    Thanks,

    David

David, it's so simple even I can do it Ha, Ha. Just unclip the top of the air filter housing and lift the old filter out and slip the new one in. While it's out if there's any debris in it you might want to vacum out the assembly before you put the new filter in. I believe you have to get the new air filter from a Toyota dealer, fram ect. doesn't make one yet.

Paprius, I thought so but didn't want to unclip it until I knew what it was...I will check it out.

    Thanks for the help.

That's not entirely true, Paprius4030. The Fram CA9501 filter almost fits. To make it fit, you need to trim about 1/4" of plastic frame off the filter housing in four places, and take off the Fram gasket and reuse your Toyota gasket.

The Prius' air filter box has some small lands at the front and back the prevent the unmodified Fram filter from sitting down in the box properly. If you get a CA9501 and compare it to your Toyota filter, you can see that the cutout portion on the front and back of the Toyota filter is wider than it is on the Fram. Clipping a little plastic out to make the cutout on the Fram filter as wide as the Toyota filter lets is slip right in. And removing/replacing the Prius' filter gasket is easy too. The filter body has a flange that fits into a groove in the inside of the gasket.

Bill for the few dollars more and the perfect fit, it worth it to me to just get a Toyota filter, plus our local dealer gives you 15% off on Saturday purchases. They call it the Sat. mechanic sale
